Mrs. Raye Fielder Woodyard Obituary

Mrs. Raye Mae Fielder Woodyard was born on August 18,1943, to the late Mr. James Herchel Fielder and Hilda Goodman-Fielder in Tallapoosa County, AL and was the eldest of nine children. She confessed Christ at an early age and was a member of Baskin Chapel A.M.E. Zion Church.

Raye Mae was united in Holy Matrimony to Jesse Woodyard and to this union five children were born. She worked at Avondale Mills until her retirement at which time she enjoyed fishing, cooking, and spending time with her family. Raye Mae had a passion for cooking and was one of the best cooks around. Raye Mae was a shining light in the lives of all who had the privilege of knowing her. Her journey on this earth was once marked by love, compassion, and unwavering faith in God. Raye Mae had a way with words and always spoke her true feelings.

Raye Mae peacefully departed this life on July 14, 2025, surrounded by her loved ones at Bethany House in Auburn, AL. She was preceded in death by her parents, James and Hilda; her husband, Jesse; a son, Melvin; four brothers, Joe Bobby, James, Jr., Ralph, and Arthur; and a great grandchild, Kenslee.

She leaves to cherish her memories: four children, Charles (Marita) Woodyard, Phyllis (Kenneth) Russell, Randy (Sheretha) Woodyard, and Chris (Bridget) Woodyard; two bonus daughters, Marjorie Kelley and Alice “Renae” Price; three brothers, Jimmy Frank (Betty) Goodman, Robert Goodman, and Theodore Goodman; two sisters, Peggy Goodman and Ethel (Michael) Adair; a sister-in-law, Mae Farrow; thirty-seven grandchildren; forty-seven great grandchildren, three great-great grandchildren; a god daughter, Lakeshia Farrow; uncles, aunts, and a host of nephews, nieces, cousins, and other relatives and friends.

Public Visitation will be held on Friday, July 18, 2025, from 1:00 p.m. until 6:00 p.m. CST at Silmon-Seroyer Funeral Home Chapel in LaFayette, AL.

Mrs. Woodyard will lie in state at the church one hour prior to the funeral service.

Funeral Services will be held on Saturday, July 19, 2025, 1:00 p.m. CST at First Baptist Church in Dadeville, AL, Rev. Larry D. Shealey | Officiating.

Burial will follow in Baskin Chapel AME Zion Church Cemetery in Dadeville, AL.
